Argentina Launches First GNL Production Project

The Governor of Río Negro, Alberto Weretilneck, and the Mayor of San Antonio Oeste, Adrián Casadei, visited the San Matías Gulf area, which will host Argentina's first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export project. During the inspection, the liquefaction vessel "Hilli Episeyo" from Pan American Energy, Golar LNG, YPF, and Pampa Energía was present.

"This ambitious venture marks an unprecedented milestone for the energy development of the country," said Weretilneck after the visit. According to YPF, in 2024, agreements with several potential international buyers were confirmed and progress was made on the engineering of the country's largest pipeline, which will connect Vaca Muerta with Punta Colorada.

The project in the Río Negro province stands out for its integration of economic growth with environmental responsibility. It is expected that the region will become a key point for global LNG exports, creating jobs and expanding the country's export capacity.

After receiving strong support at a public hearing held last December at the port of San Antonio Este, the project's production capacity is expected to reach 2.4 million tons of LNG annually with an initial investment of 2.9 billion dollars over a 10-year period.

This initiative joins the Argentina LNG project, which involves a significant investment of 30 billion dollars and plans the construction of a liquefaction plant in Sierra Grande.
